#3DNYC - Diversity, Differences, and Dialogue
Convent of the Sacred Heart
New York, New York
Using dialogue training, direct service, and reflection, students dove deep into the eight social identifiers of diversity (age, race, ethnicity, ability, gender, sexual orientation, religion, socioeconomic status).
Each day students engaged in dialogue with a different community within New York City, inclduing students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, newly immigrated families, and recently incarcerated men. Through practicing the five key skills of dialogue (introspection, active listening, questioning, critical thinking, and reflection) students strengthened their own sense of themselves and understanding of other people's experiences. The week concluded with students designing an online platform to be used as a resource for all Network schools to dialogue across difference.
